In The Orion Mystery Robert Bauval proposed that the three Giza Pyramids were laid out on the Giza Plateau to imitate the three stars of the belt of Orion. Here, I show that this lay-out was designed using distances in ratios defined by the lunar month.
This is the site plan reconstructed by John Legon based on the survey data by Flinders Petrie. There are two relationships. The first is that relating the Great Pyramid (Cheops/Khufu) to the Second Pyramid (Khafre). These two monuments define a rectangle 1101 by 1064 Royal Egyptian Cubits. The Second is that relating the Third Pyramid (Mycerinos/Menkaure) to the other two. The offset of the third pyramid which creates the Orion belt alignment defines a rectangle which measures 1732 by 1417.5 Royal Egyptian cubits.
I have added these two rectangle-defining dimensions in red to John Legon's graphic. The dimensional ratios are 30 to 29 and 110 to 90.
In this inscription on the enclosure wall of the Edfu Temple, the original mythical temple dimensions are given as 110 and 90 cubits and these numbers come from counting the two periods of the Moon, the synodic period of 29.53 days and the sidereal period of 27.3216 days expressed in whole days as 3 synodic periods of 90 days and 4 sidereal periods of 110 days. The Egyptians rounded their astronomical periods to the next whole day. An Egyptian year, for example, was 365 days, not 365 1/4.
And these lunar numbers expressed as ratios were incorporated into the master-plan according to which the three Giza pyramids were laid out to align with the Orion Belt stars: 30/29 is the ratio which defines the two whole day periods observable to pass between two New Moons. The average is 29 1/2 days which is not a round number. However, 110/90 is the ratio which defines the two periods of Moon, the synodic and the sidereal observable in whole numbers of days.
Can we confirm the lunar theme? Yes. The sidereal lunar period can be distilled from the third master-plan rectangle which relates the third pyramid to the second. This rectangle is a golden Triangle. The long side is φ times the short side. In the length of the long side of this very special triangle is hidden the sidereal lunar period of 27.3 days.
Conclusion: The Orion Correlation was designed using the code of Thoth: The periods of the Moon in days as seen in the sky translated into distances in cubits on the ground.
