Indeed, The Pyramids were Burials, but there was more to them than just Tombs…

A widely circulated misconception about the purpose of the pyramids is that they couldn't have been tombs since no mummies were ever found inside of them. But this is not correct. Mummified, linen-covered, skeletal remains dating to the Old Kingdom were found by the Czech Institute of Egyptology during the 1997-1998 season in the sarcophagus chambers of the unfinished pyramid of Neferere in Abusir, and by Abd El-Salam M. Hussein and Alexander Varille in the sarcophagus chamber of the pyramid of Djedkare Isesi (1945-1946 season), both Fifth Dynasty kings. The former 14C-date to 2628-2393 B.C. and the later to 3031-2460 B.C. See IDENTIFICATION OF ROYAL SKELETAL REMAINS FROM EGYPTIAN PYRAMIDS (2001) by EUGEN STROUHAL, LUBOŠ VYHNÁNEK, M. F. GABALLAH, S. Meanwhile, plant residue from mud bricks and charcoal residue from the mortar used to bond stone blocks were used to 14C-date Old Kingdom and Middle Kingdom pyramids and mastaba tombs. The Pyramid of Unas, for example, dates to 2675-2550 B.C. Unas was the king immediately after Djedkare Isesi. The interior architecture of these two pyramids is closely related. The data give good evidence that the pyramids of the Fifth Dynasty were built at the same time as when the kings attributed to them were mummified, and that these kings were buried inside their pyramids, inside the sarcophagus chamber. Regardless, the hieroglyphic inscription left by Khaemwaset, son of Ramses II, on the granite blocks at the entry of the Pyramid of Menkaure explicitly states that the pyramid is a "qrs", i.e. a burial, the same word and context sign used to designate the many mastabas on the Giza Plateau and other cemeteries of ancient Egypt. Khaemwaset is a better source to know than any modern theorist, orthodox or alternative.

However, this does not mean, the pyramids were just burials, i.e. tombs. Both the architecture and writing clearly suggest that they were devices to revive, transform, and ascend into the sky as a star spirit.

General themes of the Pyramid Texts on the north wall of the ante-chamber, where the king's united soul and life force transforms into a bird to fly up into the sky through the barriers that separate the horizon from the sky.
